The University of Washington and Microsoft have announced an expanded partnership to accelerate AI research, increase access to advanced computing and prepare students, workers and communities for an AI‑driven economy.
The collaboration will broaden hands‑on research and internship opportunities, enhance AI education and literacy statewide and support workforce transitions through new courses and applied learning pathways. Building on decades of Microsoft investment in the UW, the partnership responds to projected workforce shortages by strengthening training pipelines in high‑demand fields.
Together, these initiatives position the UW–Microsoft partnership as a model for how universities and industry can jointly expand opportunity, drive responsible innovation and ensure the benefits of AI are broadly shared across Washington state.
