Faculty and staff from across the University of Washington are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Husky Union Building for a daylong event focused on the future of teaching in an era shaped by artificial intelligence.
As AI tools become commonplace in students’ academic and creative work, the event will explore how educators can strengthen critical thinking, uphold academic integrity and design new approaches to learning. The program includes a keynote address by José Antonio Bowen, a national voice on AI and education, who will discuss how universities can help students thrive in a world where machine intelligence is ubiquitous. The keynote will be open to faculty, staff and students.
Following the keynote, faculty and staff who teach will participate in hands‑on workshops, panels and breakout sessions examining the practical, ethical and disciplinary dimensions of teaching with AI. Activities will include sessions on raising academic standards, fostering human agency, redesigning assignments and experimenting with AI‑infused writing tasks and instructional bots. The event aims to spark dialogue across disciplines and equip educators with strategies to prepare students for AI‑assisted careers. Advance registration is required by Feb. 9, 2026.
