The AI Initiative offers and cross-promotes a number of funding opportunities for University of Washington faculty members and PI-eligible research scientists.
The Science Hub periodically accepts applications for innovative or use-inspired research in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics. Each award is for a period of one year with award amounts of up to $100,000.

The University of Washington, the University of Tsukuba in Japan, Amazon and NVIDIA have partnered to advance research and boost advancements in artificial intelligence.
X-PAI seeks proposals in broad research areas to accelerate progress in achieving significant enhancements in technological capabilities, improvements in the quality of human living, the assurance of better safety and transparency and so forth. Awarded proposals will be funded at $125,000 to $400,000 per year for a period of two years.

The UW’s eScience Institute offers a Data Science and AI Accelerator that pairs eScience Institute data scientists with researchers from any field to answer specific research questions, implement software or develop tools. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for projects ranging in length from one week to six months.

In addition, the UW Office of Research, the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, the Information School, the NSF Institute for Foundations of Data Science (IFDS) and the eScience Institute partnered in 2023 to initiate and support novel collaborations on four different projects:
- Revealing the Hidden Lives of Cryptic Carnivores with Machine Learning and AI (Abrahms & Harchaoui)
- Foundations of Online Human Preference Adaptation for Trustworthy Human-AI Shared Autonomy (Leung, Gupta, & Fazel)
- Deep Spatiotemporal Embedding for Multiscale Quantum Matter Analysis (Cao & Weng)
- Data-Driven Optimization of Stochastic Computational Experiments (Choe & Jamison)
