Using AI Responsibly

AI can be a powerful tool for learning, teaching and research. Because AI evolves so rapidly, keeping up with the technology and potential uses can be a challenge. And using it responsibly and ethically is imperative. Throughout the UW, departments and programs provide discipline-specific advice and guidance. Below are a few general resources for the ethical and responsible use of AI.

UW Bothell and Cascadia College provide students with AI basics and guidance on how to use AI to enhance their learning.
Community Standards and Student Conduct offers guidelines for using AI appropriately in academic settings and in accordance with the Student Conduct Code.

Teaching@UW provides faculty with resources for course design, as well as the ethical and social issues related to AI and sample syllabus statements on student use of AI.
Whether instructors allow the use of AI, prohibit AI or permit AI with restrictions, Teaching@UW offers sample syllabus statements that instructors can use or adapt.

The UW Gallagher Law Library offers resources on the risks and impact of AI on legal education and the practice of law.
Responsibility in AI Systems and Experiences, a coalition of labs across disciplines at the UW, advocates for AI systems that are aligned with human ethics and values.
